The
Positive Performance Concepts Clinic
prepares students in all aspects of the
marching band to perform as ideal role
models to their peers, leading them to
personal and competitive success. PPC
also provides instructional, hands-on
presentations for band directors in the
areas of show development, rehearsal
techniques, and general effect methods.
Our goal is support programs with
limited access to specialized
instruction for auxiliary captions,
while providing a focus of positive
leadership. Students of any experience
level will benefit from our well-planned
and progressive instructional sessions.
Participants at PPC will experience the
process and techniques needed to mold
and shape fellow members into ambitious,
enthusiastic achievers for their own
marching band programs.
"The Start of Something Big" - The
History of Positive Performance
Concepts, Inc.
Positive Performance Concepts, Inc.
began in 1999 as a one-day drum major
clinic called "Field Commander Seminar"
at Macon County High School in
Lafayette, TN. Lead by Kelly Medford and
J. Ashley Jarrell, this clinic
introduced a thorough method of
conducting and leadership techniques to
the less than 10 participating drum
majors. The outstanding results from
this seminar however, inspired Medford
and Jarrell to add an additional day of
instruction for the nearly 20
participants the following year.
Held at Harpeth High School in Harpeth,
TN in 2001, the clinic became the "Field
Commander and Color Guard Seminar" by
adding instructional sessions for color
guard. With this addition, lead by
renowned color guard instructor Damon
Padilla, the clinic once again doubled
in student participation and word was
beginning to spread about the seminar’s
high level of instruction and relevant
material for area marching band
programs.
Bringing the clinic to the Middle
Tennessee State University campus in
Murfreesboro, TN in 2002, the newly
named "Contemporary Band Auxiliary
Seminar" expanded its instructional
sessions to include battery/front
ensemble percussion sessions and
in-service sessions for band directors.
Instrumental to the future development
of the clinic was the addition that year
of Terry Jolley as the leader of the
band director in-service sessions.
Recognizing the potential for the clinic
to become a complete and effective
marching band clinic on a grander scale,
Terry Jolley, of Jolley and Associates,
worked with Medford and Jarrell to
establish "Positive Performance
Concepts, Inc." for the 2003 clinic.
Through this collaboration, the 2003 PPC
clinic achieved its goal of offering
instruction for every marching band
member by adding the wind players
sessions. With over 100 participating
students, significant to the 2003 clinic
was the inclusion of Julie Davila as
leader of the percussion sessions, and
Scott Lang for winds and leadership
sessions.
With its meager beginning of a one-day
drum major seminar for 8 students in
1999, Positive Performance Concepts,
Inc. has now grown to an all-inclusive
marching band clinic that will continue
to grow and develop to meet the needs of
all high school band programs.
Throughout its development, Positive
Performance Concepts, Inc. has always
maintained its mission of presenting an
effective, beneficial, and positive
instructional approach for all areas and
levels of the high school marching band.
Our expectations will always be high so
that we can offer our best each and
every year. |
